Armour Child and Family Therapy Services

Armour Counseling Services provides counseling to children, their parents and their caregivers, with the ultimate goal of helping the child grow up to be a successful, autonomous adult. Whether children are living at home or in out-of-home placement, Armour assists families in developing improved emotional, social and family function, emphasizing personal growth, development and situational change.

  • Armour uses both short- and long-term treatment approaches based on clinical practice guidelines for individuals, families and groups.
  • ChildServ’s clinicians are trained to recognize the need for specialized services and make referrals for more
    intensive treatment options when appropriate.
  • We primarily serve children and families involved in ChildServ’s out-of-home placements, adoptions, subsidized guardianships and GrandFamily Support, as well as children who have returned home to their biological parent(s).
  • Armour works collaboratively with colleagues from within ChildServ, as well as external systems, such as Chicago Public Schools, Juvenile Court and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, to create the best
possible outcomes for children and young adults in our care.
  • Our therapists offer a range of hours to accommodate working parents or those with specific scheduling needs.
  • We partner with local second-year graduate-level programs; seven to 10 interns work with Armour each year.
  • 82% of Armour clients report they have learned new ways to manage and control their emotions in Fiscal Year 2011.
  • In Fiscal Year 2011, our clinical tools found that 89% of our clients maintained or improved their overall level of
    functioning.
