College and Career Access Program (CCAP)

The College and Career Access Program (CCAP) brings young people in foster care and group homes mentoring and counseling in order to help them discover educational and career options, motivating them to pursue meaningful careers and financial independence.

  • CCAP helps youth set long-term college and career goals; develop positive social skills; gain exposure to post-secondary institutions, training programs, and careers; and reinforce their self-esteem and personal growth.
  • Our program coordinators create a unique service plan for each participant and coordinate relevant services.
  • We help Illinois Department of Children and Family Services wards secure post-secondary and career development funds available through the state.
  • Our staff refers CCAP participants to after-school programs and agencies that provide specialized college
    preparatory and career development services.
  • We link participants to services in local schools that will give them a sense of their aptitudes and talents.
  • Our staff also provides tutoring, test preparation tools, and assistance in completing entrance and financial aid
    applications.
  • We arrange career-focused trips, college tours and job tours for youth.

CCAP Success Story

Last year, five young adults went through ChildServ's Transitional Living Program. With the help of CCAP, three secured financial aid and became enrolled in college. CCAP continued to mentor them, making tutoring available when needed as well as assisting the students with their studying, helping them to become more effective and successful. Two other young adults found guidance from CCAP as they worked towards their GED. Providing them with study materials, scheduling assistance and one-on-one tutoring from staff, they were well prepared for their eventual exams.
