Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY)
|
Through Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youth (HIPPY), ChildServ helps at-risk pre-school children in Chicago have the best chance possible at early school success by empowering their parents with the tools, skills and confidence they need to serve as their child’s primary educator. Our goal is to improve school readiness.
- HIPPY helps parents prepare their 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children for success in school and beyond.
- Our professionally trained home educators deliver HIPPY in-home to approximately 80 vulnerable children and their families each year.
- We assist families residing in the Chicago neighborhoods of Englewood, Austin, Humboldt Park, Rogers Park, and North and South Lawndale.
- We are proud to partner with HIPPY USA for the past 22 years.
- We provide a network in which families come together in their communities once a month for activities that focus on health and self sufficiency.
- Our staff holds eight group meetings each year on topics like child development and family function with both hands-on demonstrations and informational resources.
- Compared to the national average, parents in HIPPY have been shown to read more to their children, have more knowledge about the way young children grow and learn, and become more involved in their children’s education over time.
- 92% of our HIPPY clients reported that they have learned new ways to be a better parent in Fiscal Year 2011.
- In Fiscal Year 2011, 93% of the parents in HIPPY engaged in structured daily learning activities with their children.
