An Adoption Story: Baby Whitney

The Hubers became Whitney's foster parents in 1999. They remember their case worker with much fondness. She helped them become licensed foster care parents and much more. ChildServ also assisted in the adoption process. Larry and Amy say they were blessed to be able to adopt Whitney, who is a very happy 10-year-old today. Larry and Amy have four children in total, three biological and one adopted.

“There are not enough words to describe the feelings that take you over, when a vulnerable little person is put in your care!! Immediately, there is the overwhelming need to protect and nourish. The love was automatic, for all of us!! We also found out that whether biological, or not, we love and treat all of our children the same.We will advocate for children for the rest of our lives, and we hope that our positive experience will be an inspiration for others!!”

Licensing and Adoption
ChildServ’s Licensing and Adoption Program develops and cultivates both temporary and permanent placements for abused and neglected children who enter the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). We ensure that each child in our care receives a safe, nurturing home.

In addition, through the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Program, ChildServ finds permanent adoptive homes for children waiting in foster care. Our professionally trained recruiter facilitates the matches of children with appropriate families. ChildServ is Chicagoland’s local adoption partner for Wendy's Wonderful Kids, a signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. This program combines the fundraising efforts of Wendy's and its customers, results-driven grant oversight of the Foundation and the talent of seasoned adoption recruiters.

  • Our staff recruits, trains, licenses and monitors family foster homes for children referred to us from DCFS.
  • Our staff works in collaboration with the family’s caseworker to prepare each biological family, adoptive child and adoptive family for adoptions.
  • We provide technical assistance and training to foster parents and caseworkers in order to establish permanent homes for foster children through subsidized guardianship.
