ChildServ’s Healthy Fit Program brings health and nutrition services to low-income residents of Cook and Lake counties to help reduce childhood obesity. ChildServ has a bilingual health educator who makes FREE home visits that focus on healthy eating and physical education for clients who are enrolled in ChildServ’s Parent Empowerment Program, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters, Grand Family Support and Home Family Child Care.
- ChildServ’s Healthy Fit Program staff works with both adults and children. We improve families’ knowledge of healthy living through community activities, health fairs, public presentations and workshops.
- Our bilingual (English and Spanish) home educator assesses family members’ needs for health resources, and works with parents on education, referring them to additional resources when they are needed. We follow up
with them through free home visits and center-based activities to insure families’ success. - Our staff helps to educate parents about the importance of holistic health and the connection between mental and physical well-being.
- We teach the importance of calculating personal body mass and measuring it against the Body Mass Index (BMI).
- Healthy Fit staff explains how to develop a workout schedule for beginners.
- Our Healthy Fit Program educates families about healthy meals and snacks through featuring Week Meal Planning.
- Last Year, 100% of our Healthy Fit clients demonstrated improvement in knowledge and practice concerning their family’s nutrition.
