Military & Veteran Family Program

ChildServ’s Military and Veteran Family Program proudly serves current and former military personnel and their families in Cook and Lake counties as they seek to improve their well-being and transition into civilian life. Our staff facilitates access to mental health, housing and education resources, and leads action teams that engage and bring together business leaders, elected officials and service providers to build veteran resource capacity in the Chicagoland area.

Services include:

Armour Counseling: ChildServ’s counseling team assists children in military families, as well as current military personnel, veterans, and their spouses/significant others dealing with emotional and psychological issues pertaining to combat, deployment, grief, re-entry, trauma and other challenges not related to military service. The program is particularly helpful for those families with an active-duty servicemember with combat experience or preparing for deployment. For more information, please call (773) 239-8942.

Illinois Military Families Initiative (IMFI): In conjunction with our community partners and other social service organizations, ChildServ has developed a formal referral system to compliment the direct services for our current and former military personnel and their families. IMFI provides these clients with a comprehensive array of programs, ranging from immediate needs, such as mental health or child welfare services, to long-term needs like permanent housing and employment, as they seek to ease their transition into civilian life. If you would you like more information, please contact us at (773) 867-7323.

Affordable Homes for Heroes: In partnership with BMO Harris, Home Depot and Neighborhood Housing Services, ChildServ provides affordable housing solutions and case management services to military and veteran families with young children. Additionally, participants take basic financial literacy and homeownership courses—preparing them for a higher level of self-sufficiency. For more information, please call (773) 867-7321.

Parent Empowerment Program: The Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) is a home-based, early intervention and prevention service that works one-on-one with parents to prepare their young child for preschool. ChildServ’s staff, using an evidence-based curriculum, educates parents on child development and how to better advocate for themselves and their children in the areas of education, health and social services. Additionally, ChildServ provides nutrition and health education to PEP families through our Healthy Fit Program. If you would like additional information, please contact us at (773) 867-7368.

HIPPY: ChildServ’s Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youth (HIPPY) program prepares at-risk 3–, 4– and 5-year-olds in Chicago for kindergarten and beyond. HIPPY empowers parents with the necessary confidence, skills and tools to serve as their child’s primary educator, giving the child the best possible chance of success.
